While many had predicted a whitewashing for Ogheneekaro Etebo and his Las Palmas teammates against Barcelona, the Nigeria international is happy they shamed their critics; holding the table-toppers to a 1-1 draw.
Etebo described the point as “great” for the relegation-battling side and expressed confidence that they can beat the drop though it will definitely be tough.
The 24-year-old Nigeria International, who is hopeful for a world cup place, sparked off the rivalry with Argentine maestro Lionel Messi before their countries meet in Russia later this year.
Etebo was rated as the most accurate with the ball at his feet of all the 14 players for Las Palmas vs Barcelona Thursday, with 92% pass accuracy.
Despite the hard-fought draw, Las Palmas are still in the relegation zone as they are 18th on 20 points.
Barcelona remain top on 66 points, five points above second-place Atletico Madrid who they will face at the Camp Nou this weekend.
